SENSORY EXPERIENCE
Deep garnet colour with violet highlights, of a fine intensity characteristic of great Côte-Rôtie. The rim is crisp and the slow legs point to a good richness of alcohol.
The bouquet opens with notes of fresh violet and ripe black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry), enhanced by sweet spices, black pepper and liquorice, and a touch of smoked bacon typical of the appellation.
A supple, fleshy attack, then a lovely build in power with silky, well-integrated tannins. The finish is long and lingering, with black fruit and spices, and remarkable mineral freshness.
Exceptional know-how.
The king grape variety of Côte-Rôtie, planted on steep slopes of pink granite. It gives the wine its structure, its violet aromas and its exceptional ageing potential.

Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 30% of them new. The aim is to refine the tannins while preserving the fruit and the mineral character of the granitic terroir.
A pioneer in the revival of Côte-Rôtie
Yves Cuilleron is one of the most emblematic winemakers of the northern Rhône. Based in Chavanay since 1987, he has gradually grown his estate across the region’s flagship appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Cornas.
His philosophy rests on meticulous work in the vineyard and a winemaking approach that respects the terroir, aiming to express the essence of each plot. Les Chaillées de l’Enfer is his emblematic Côte-Rôtie cuvée, made from the estate’s best plots.

Côte-Rôtie, literally the “roasted slope” because of the sun, is one of the most prestigious and northerly appellations of the Rhône. Its vines cling to dizzying slopes overlooking the Rhône, between Vienne and Condrieu, on granitic and gneissic soils that give the wines incomparable minerality and finesse.

This Côte-Rôtie pairs particularly well with red meats such as rib of beef or roast lamb. It also shows all its complexity with game birds (pheasant, pigeon) and aged regional cheeses.
Ideally between 16 and 18°C. For a young vintage such as 2021, consider decanting the wine 1 to 2 hours before serving to aerate the tannins and reveal the full aromatic range.
This Côte-Rôtie 2021 has an ageing potential of 8 to 15 years. It is already approachable and enjoyable to drink now, but will gain in complexity and depth over the next 5 to 10 years.
Côte-Rôtie stands out for its steep slopes (up to 60°) facing due south on granite and gneiss soils. This maximum exposure and these poor, well-draining soils concentrate the aromas and give the wines their famous minerality.
